2026 DTV Rule Changes

What tightened this year — and exactly what it means for your application.

Last reviewed 30 Aug 2026 · updated as consulates change

Thailand has quietly closed the old workarounds — the 60-day visa exemption dropped to 30 days, border-run entries are capped, and repeat entries are being flagged. The DTV is now the clean, legal long-stay route. But the application rules have tightened too. Tap any item below.

What changed. Several Thai consulates now require you to apply where you are a citizen or permanent resident. London and Savannakhet have both confirmed permanent-residence rules from 31 August 2026. Flying to a nearby country — Laos, for example — just because its consulate looked easier no longer works.

What this means for you → Applying at the wrong consulate is now a fast route to rejection. We match you to the correct consulate for your nationality and residence before a single document is submitted.

What changed. The 500,000 THB (≈ $14,000) in funds must have been sitting in your account for roughly three months. Consulates now systematically reject lump sums deposited within 90 days of applying — the single most common reason DTV applications fail.

What this means for you → Move your money early. We review your bank statements before submission so "fresh funds" never sink your application.

What changed. Some consulates — London among them — now require a police clearance certificate issued within the last six months, such as an ACRO check. The accepted issuer, document age, translation and legalisation differ from consulate to consulate.

What this means for you → We tell you exactly which certificate your consulate accepts and how to get it in time — no wasted fees on the wrong document.

What changed. You now need to prove where you currently live in the consulate's country — a utility bill, lease or driver's licence. A soft expectation in 2024, it is now a documented requirement at most consulates.

What this means for you → We build your residence proof into the pack up front, so nothing is missing on submission day.

What changed. Thai language courses no longer qualify under the soft-power route; those applicants are directed to the ED visa instead. Muay Thai, culinary and medical / wellness programmes still qualify.

What this means for you → If you were counting on a language course, talk to us first — we'll place you in a qualifying programme or steer you to the right visa.

What changed. Applications run through the official e-Visa portal (thaievisa.go.th). Walk-in filing has ended at almost every consulate.

What this means for you → Every Migrify submission is prepared to the portal's exact format — upload types, sizes and wording included.
